CSC Responds to Representative Sanders’ Comment on 211 Helpline

On July 21, Tulsa World writer Ginnie Graham published Community Service Council’s response to comments made by House Majority Leader Mike Sanders, R-Kingfisher, in an article titled House majority leader picks on social program already eliminated by DHS.

Graham included quotes by CSC CEO Kevin Burr in response to Sanders’ recent suggestion that CSC’s 211 Oklahoma helpline system should be a program the Oklahoma Department of Services could cut instead of others that more directly affect vulnerable children and adults. However, DHS already eliminated funding to 211 Oklahoma in 2016, a program that annually connects more than 300,000 people across Oklahoma to much needed services and resources, of which 82% are referrals to faith-based and non-profit organizations, not state services.
