In mid-August, Community Service Council (CSC) participated in three Back-to-School Fairs at Martin Regional Library, Ellen Ochoa Elementary School and Jenks East Elementary School.
The Back-to-School Fair at the Martin Regional Library had over 1,300 attendees and 40 community organizations providing school supplies, dental screenings and immunizations. CSC’s Power of Families Project registered 72 families who were interested in being a part of the program and handed out backpacks to students.
CSC’s Center for Community School Strategies worked with INCOG to provide maps of the neighborhoods for families at all of the Union Community Schools. Additionally, CSC’s Power of Families Promotoras enrolled families in Baby Book Clubs and Hispanic Family Nights at Ochoa Elementary on August 15.
CSC’s Center for Community School Strategies and Family Health Coalition, along with Sprouts Child Development Initiative and the Oklahoma Caring Foundation, participated in a Family Fun Fair serving 250 students at Jenks East Elementary School. Developmental learning supplies were also sponsored by the AUM Foundation, community donor Mrs. Kanta Gupta and Dr. Sood of Birth and Beyond Pediatrics.
“Providing families with critical educational and developmental resources will help connect learning from school to home, which is an essential element to a child’s success,” said Erin Velez, community school consultant for CSC’s Center for Community School Strategies. “Our goal is to continue building relationships with families to ensure that their students are equipped with the tools they need to thrive.”
