TYPROS—Economic Impact through Inclusion

For over a decade and a half, TYPROS (Tulsa’s Young Professionals) has focused on creating economic and leadership opportunities for young talent in the Tulsa region. From programs such as Get On Board, TYPROS’ board internship program for young professionals, and Bring it to Tulsa, TYRPOS’ business recruitment initiative attracting such companies as Uber and Trader Joe’s to Tulsa, TYPROS has been a force for ensuring young professionals are represented in board rooms and leading efforts on economic development for our city. In 2020, TYPROS recognized the need to support Tulsa’s small business entrepreneurs, individuals experiencing job loss, and students interning in Tulsa. With initiatives such as Take Out Tuesdays, Buy Local campaigns, resume building and salary negotiating seminars, and virtual Intern in Tulsa programming, TYPROS was able to promote spending dollars locally, provide resources for job searchers, and ensure interns felt connected to the Tulsa community despite there being many remote internships this summer.

In 2021, TYPROS has a renewed focus on serving the needs and supporting the aspirations of young professionals of color in Tulsa. In addition to welcoming the most diverse leadership team in TYPROS history, the TYPROS Foundation is dedicating its 2021 grant cycle entirely to Black Wall Street and Historic Greenwood projects to provide resources to engage young Black Tulsans in innovative, placemaking and community development projects. TYPROS will also be actively partnering with and promoting other young professional organizations in Tulsa, such as Tulsa Jewish Young Professionals, Blueprint 918 and HYPE. TYPROS understands the critical importance of connecting young people with the resources, networks and professional development opportunities they need to increase their economic mobility in our community.

TYPROS hopes that through these endeavors, we can help move the needle on indicators in each area of Economic Opportunity of the Tulsa Equality Indicators, specifically business executives by gender and race, unemployment by race, high-wage occupations by race and living wage by geography.  Actively recruiting diverse young talent and creating programming that addresses the specific needs of each community in Tulsa will ensure more equitable professional and economic attainment for all Tulsans.
