CSC Hosts Training for Hispanic Families with Special Needs

CSC Hosts Training for Hispanic Families with Special Needs

On Sunday, June 25, CSC’s The Power of Families Project teamed up with Comunidad Esperanza, Oklahoma Parents Center and Improving Lives Counseling Services to offer a two-hour training in Spanish for Hispanic parents of children with special needs or developmental delays.

The event was led by Deidra Edwards of the Oklahoma Parents Center, Erica Herrera of the Oklahoma Family Network, and Gardenia Celaya of Sooner Success. The three speakers informed and empowered the 30+ parents in attendance to understand their family’s rights within the public education system, and to help their children reach their full potential in school.

Additionally, the training reached 1300+ viewers on Facebook Live. The team orchestrated the live viewing for the families who would not be able to attend the training in-person due to the special needs of their children.

Lunch was donated by Improving Lives Counseling Services and Supermercado Morelos. The collaborative team behind this event is planning a follow up training on Aug. 30, 2017.
