On November 14, 2016, Heather Hope-Hernandez joined CSC as the new Chief Officer of External Affairs. Heather is a veteran communications and public policy professional with a nearly 25-year track record. A native Tulsan and University of Oklahoma graduate, Heather worked for 12 years in both Washington, D.C. and New York City as a political journalist—first covering the U.S. Congress for publications including Congressional Quarterly where she analyzed the impact of proposed tax and budget legislation as well as appropriations, crime, immigration and campaign finance reform. She then covered national politics for a NYC-based cable news network. Upon returning to Tulsa in late 2003, Heather spent the next three years as a senior staff member on national, state and local political campaigns before turning full-time to marketing communications. She has been director of public relations for HKH Advertising since 2009. On the CSC Board since 2014, Heather has played a key role in crafting the communications-focused framework of CSC’s new strategic plan. She has also twice chaired the highly-successful Top of the Town annual fundraiser achieving record-breaking donations each year.
Heather manages all aspects of CSC’s external affairs, including communications and marketing, leadership positioning, public policy, advocacy and strategic, community partnerships, fundraising and resource development.
