Abode Initiative

Partnering with landlords to combat homelessness

Community Service Council’s Abode Initiative promotes Housing First operating principles to local landlords by connecting residential properties to social services, education, monetary assistance and staff support. Abode’s goal is to support landlords’ efforts to run a profitable property while helping Tulsa prevent and end homelessness.

Landlords’ influence

Tulsa has some of the highest housing, eviction and homelessness rates in the country. With an increase of 7% in homelessness in the Tulsa region since 2007, landlords have seen its effects. Tulsa is ranked 11th highest in evictions across the nation, causing increasing liabilities and costs to properties at large.

One of the most important and proven defenses we have in ending homelessness in Tulsa is supporting and advocating for a major key player: the landlord.
