Building A Safer Tulsa
A Working Summit to Address Gang Violence

September 20-21, 2006  -  Tulsa Civic Center

The Summit was sponsored by the Mayor's Office and the US Attorney's Office, with staff support from the Community Service Council.

Download the Tulsa Gang Summit Report.  It is in two files:

Gang Summit Report    Groups' Action Plan Charts

To print and collate these files into one report:

-   The layout is planned such that each even-numbered page should be printed on the back of the preceding odd-numbered page
-   Discard the title page from the Action Plan Charts
-   Insert the Action Plan Charts just before the "Acknowledgements" page in the Gang Summit Report

Updates!

Since the summit, a comprehensive gang initiative has been developed and exciting work is now under way.  Read more:  PowerPoint

Oklahoma has created the Oklahoma Youth and Gang Violence Coordinating Council, a state-wide steering committee to coordinate Oklahoma’s response to gang activity and violence.  Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor was appointed to serve on the Coordinating Council in July 2007.  Read more:  Mayor's Office Press Release

Mayor Kathy Taylor has launched Tulsa's Mentoring to the Max initiative, along with corporate sponsor Bank of America and program partners Tulsa Public Schools, Junior League of Tulsa, Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence, Partners in Education, Community Service Council of Greater Tulsa, and the Tulsa Mentoring Coalition.  The initiative is aimed at raising awareness of the benefits of mentoring children and increasing the number of mentors in Tulsa. Tulsans who are interested in becoming a mentor are encouraged to call 2-1-1 to sign up or visit: www.mentoringtulsa.org
